Lot Essay

The majority of the watercolours and drawings in this album are from Tuke's hand with the odd exception probably by family members, his sister Maria being a keen amateur artist. The works are extremely varied in subject and style and include illustrations to nursery ryhmes dating from Tuke's years as an art student at the Slade. The album was probably compiled by Maria as it includes at least one card sent to one of her children, Philip, for his fifth birthday in 1904.

We are very grateful to Mrs. Kate Richards for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
