Lot Essay

A watercolour of Cintra, Portugal by Holland, dated 1837, sold at Christie's London, 12 July 1994 (£2,200).
Holland was commissioned to go to Portugal in 1837 to make drawings to be engraved in Jenning's Landscape Annual, published in 1839. He became ill and convalesced in Cintra.
