Lot Essay

Callow writes in his autobiography 'In this year [1834] I exhibited at the Salon a large watercolour drawing of 'A View from Richmond', composed from a sketch done when I was last in England. It attracted considerable attention' (p. 24, H.M. Cundall (ed.), An Autobiography, London, 1908).

We are very grateful to John Zwemmer for his help in preparing this catalogue entry and for lot 151.
