Lot Essay

The present work is one of a number of watercolours executed by Jones between 1925 and 1927 at his parents house on Howson Road in Brockley, a south-eastern suburb of London. A similar composition, A Town Garden (1926; private collection) is illustrated in N. Gray, The Paintings of David Jones, London, 1989, pl. 14.
