A Chinese export lacquered tea caddy, second quarter 19th century
Of shaped rectangular outline, the domed cover painted and gilt heightened with a scene of figures in a landscape set on a banner held by two Chinamen, with further similar scenes in cartouches to the edges, front and sides, the waisted lower body with further gilt heightened scrolling foliage, on four feet carved as dragons (two detached), the interior with twin subsidiary lead boxes of polygonal outline, with circular covers and further inner covers with carved ivory handles -- 9in. (22.9cm.) wide, 6½in. (16.5cm.) deep, 6½in. (16.5cm.) high
