The present models are copies of the greyhound 'Eos', a bronze work by the sculptor John Francis (1780-1861), which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1848. Eos was one of Queen Victoria's favorite dogs, and there are bronze models at both Osborne House, Isle of Wight, and Windsor Castle.
