Yates Haywood foundry, third quarter 19th century
The serpentine scrolling and lattice pierced back rest entwined with trailing blackberry and leaves below the fan-shaped cresting, the seat pierced with conjoined hexagons above the foliate apron, flanked by the conforming scroll side panels united by a stretcher, and with diamond design patent registration stamps (some worn), for 24th February, 1854

Lot Essay

Yates firm at the Effingham Works, Rotherham, Yorkshire, having merged with J.Haywood & Co., received considerable praise for their work at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park. The design was patented and registered at the Public Records Office, no. 95165, on the 24th February, 1854.
