A Scottish cast iron seat
Carron Foundry, mid 19th century
The foliate scrolling crested back rest pierced with conjoined hoops, the sides with 'C' scrolls, the seat panel pierced and cast with stylised foliage, and arabesques, above a conforming apron and cabriole legs to the front, plain banded legs to the back, stamped CARRON, with diamond patent registration stamps for 16th March, 1846

Lot Essay

The design for this seat, number 34358, was registered and patented by the Carron Foundry, Carron, Stirlingshire, on the 16th March 1846. The present larger version of this seat is considered very rare.

John Adam became a partner of Carron in 1763 and with his brothers James and Robert produced a range of elegant railings, stoves, fireplace surrounds and hob grates.
