Maker's mark of Tobias Remshardt, Augsburg, circa 1730
The oblong stand with shaped corners and on four scroll feet, fitted with a detachable taperstick with oval base, baluster stem and vase-shaped socket, the shoulders applied with lion's masks, with a pair of hexagonal vase-shaped pen-holders applied with classical portrait busts, a partly-fluted bell with baluster handle and a baluster-shaped inkpot and sander, one with pierced cover, the other with detachable cover with baluster finial, the stand, bell and pots each applied with portrait medallions within flat-chased strapwork and diaperwork on a matted ground, marked on stand, taperstick and bell
