A four-case gold lacquer ground inro
decorated in gold, silver and coloured togidashi-e on one side with a lion dancer carrying a child on his back and on the other with three children of different ages watching, the youngest riding on the back of the oldest who carries a banner, the design signed Hanabusa Itcho with a red seal zu (design), compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer -- 4in. (10.2cms) high; signed in gold hiramaki-e underneath Gyokusai Tachibana Masamitsu with a red lacquer kao, 19th Century; translucent stone ojime; en suite gold lacquer manju netsuke with the same signiature as the inro, decorated in togidashi-e with a jingle.

Hanabusa Itcho (1652-1724) was another artist whose designs were often copied indirectly by inro-decorators who usually worked from illustrated books or other secondary sources. The lacquer artist Gyokusai Tachibana Masamitsu appears to be unrecorded.
