Lot Essay

During the first half of the 1980's, Visser hardly executed any sculptures. Instead, he produced numerous series of collages. In 1984, the Groninger Museum even devoted an entire exhibition to his collages or so called plakbeelden - glued sculptures.
Using illustrations, advertising clippings, cardboard etc, of different shapes and textures, often combined with three-dimensional objects, Visser plays with associations. The feather is frequently used in his imagery; as in the present lot, glued onto a work by Schoonhoven, photographed from the side.
