Lot Essay

Isaac Lowndes (apparently no relation to Johnathan Lowndes - see lot 52) was made a Free Brother of the Clockmakers' Company in 1682 and took three apprentices including Henry Aske (1691). Records from the Clockmakers' Company note he tried to excuse himself from the duties of stewardship much to the chagrin of the Company - his excuse being that he was ..to go into the country very suddenly.
His work was always of the best 'London' quality
