The case with brass ball finials on pedestals to the caddy top applied with later foliate-pierced sound frets, the dial flanked by gilt-brass capped 3/4-columns, rectangular trunk door, punch-numbered 463 on the leading edge in the usual place, herringbone-inlaid rectangular panels to the sides and similar border inlay to the plinth on skirted base (lacking further double skirt) the 11in.sq. dial signed Tho: Tompion & Edw Banger London in an oval reserve within a matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring and calendar apeture with pinhole adjustment, original pierced and sculpted steel hands, (now black painted and with restorations), silvered Roman and Arabic dial with typical sword-hilt half hour markers, double-screwed Indian mask-and-foliate spandrels interrupting foliate border engraving, now lacking the bolt-and-shutter maintaining power, latches to the dial feet and to the six pillar movement with original anchor escapement and internal rack strike on a bell, the backplate punch-numbered in the usual place at the base of the backplate No.463; with original? brass-cased weights and pendulum
