The rectangular padded back, outscrolled arms, loose cushion and bolster cushions covered in pink watered-silk, the scrolled arms carved with acanthus above a patera-studded panelled frieze, on reeded and tapering legs, later brass caps and castors, later stretcher, reduced in width

Lot Essay

The leaf-wrapped carved arms of the present sofa relate to a pair of rosewood bergeres supplied by Gillows in 1824 to Thomas John Wynn (d. 1832), 2nd Baron Newborough, for Glynllifon, Caernarvonshire, Wales, sold in these Rooms 9 March 2000, lot 101 (56,500). They are conceived in the French antique or Louis Quatorze style that was introduced during Geroge IV's Regency.
