Lot Essay

Alexander, 6th Earl of Galloway (d.1773), was the eldest son and heir of James, 5th Earl of Galloway, a celebrated Privy Councillor and statesman in the reign of Queen Anne, and his wife Catherine, daughter of Alexander, 9th Earl of Eglington. He married first Lady Anne Keith daughter of William, Earl Marischal and secondly, in 1729, Catherine, youngest daughter of John Cochrane, 4th Earl of Dundonald, and his wife, Anne, second daughter of the 1st Earl of Dunmore.
