Market Bosworth Hall in Leicestershire is one of the unsung great houses of the late 17th Century, built by Sir Beaumont Dixie between 1682 and his death in 1692 in a sumptuous Anglo-Dutch Anglo-French style. When published by J. Throsby in 1791 (Views in Leicestershire) it had already been 'gentrified' in a Georgian style, but was to be much altered and ornamented in the 19th Century, particularly by Tollemache Scott in the 1880s. The artist has taken a stance on the tower of the church of St Peter sited to the west of the house and thus out of the picture.
