1973 FERRARI 365/GT4 BB

Yellow and black with black leather interior
Engine: flat 12, twin overhead camshafts to each head, 4,390cc, four 3-barrel Weber carburetors, 344bhp at 7,000rpm; Gearbox: manual five- speed; Suspension: all independent by wishbones and coil springs; Brakes: four wheel power assisted hydraulically operated disc. Left hand drive.
When the Lamborghini Miura appeared, high performance coupes with engines in front of the driver began to look quite old fashioned to some observers. Stung by outspoken criticism of their front-engined Daytona models, Ferrari unveiled, at the 1971 Turin Motor Show, the aggresive 365 BB flat-12 mid-engine Boxer Berlinetta. At this point it was still a concept car, used to make a point, demonstating what could be done with a racing flat-12 powerplant similar to that used in the Scuderia's Formula 1 cars if Ferrari chose. Ing. Mauro Forghiere's powerful flat-12 engines went on to bring Ferrari many laurels in Formula 1 and endurance racing from 1970 to 1973. The concept and engine alike were too good to waste and in 1973 the 4.4 litre 365/GT4 BB, a roadgoing production Berlinetta with the Boxer engine and gearbox unit set just behind the driver, was launched at the Paris Motor Show. Combining the flat-12 with aggressive styling by Pininfarina, Ferrari set a theme for many years of production cars. The 365 became the 512 when in 1976 it was fitted with a 5 litre engine, larger rear wheels, front spoiler and only four rear lights.
This 365/GT4 BB appears to be in very presentable order and has probably been repainted. The yellow bodywork over black sills is most attractive. The interior seats are in very good condition and there is an original type Eviatone radio/cassette player. The indicated mileage shows just 5,017 and, although without supporting documentary evidence of this, it may be correct from new. The car is offered with its original Instruction Book. EPA paperwork indicates that this Boxer was imported from Italy by Mr. Jerrold Goldine and passed to Mr. Millett in 1983 where it was kept in his heated and dehumidified garage together with the other Ferraris in his collection. Being a carburetor car, the new owner will undoubtedly enjoy the sound of four triple choke Webers working hard in the engine bay...
