LOMBARD, Carole
Photograph Signed ("Carole Lombard"). 4 x 6 in. sepia, nicely matted and framed with brass plaque.
One of Hollywood's most talented and glamorous stars, Lombard was a warm-hearted, genuine girl who became one of the most famous, and certainly the best loved comedienne in America. She starred opposite John Barrymore in Howard Hawk's "20th Century," and lent her considerable talents to the success of Lubitsch's "To Be or Not to Be." That was 1942, and her last film. She died that year in a plane crash while returning from a US-Bond selling tour. Her sudden death stunned millions of fans and her husband, Clark Cable, was said to be in despair over it for years.
