[MONROE, Marilyn.]
Marilyn's Thank You letter from the Chairpersons of the Democratic National Committee, Citizens for Kennedy, for appearing in her most famous performance -- singing Happy Birthday Mister President
Typed letter signed ("Anna" and "Arthur") for Anna Rosenberg, and Arthur Krim, to Marilyn Monroe. Anna and Arthur were co-chairs of the committee which, in addition to other good works, organized the President's legendary birthday bash at Madison Square Garden. 1 page, quarto, New York, May 29, 1962, on stationery upon which is printed "New York's Birthday Salute to the President, Inc Madison Square Garden Saturday Evening May 19, 1962", framed and in fine condition. No one who has seen them (and that's just about everyone in the United States) can forget the images from that evening of a very loose and sexified Marilyn Monroe purring into the microphone an eye-popping version of the song "Happy Birthday Mr. President", nor the hilarious and excruciating sight of the playboy President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, looking on sheepishly in alternating expressions of embarassment and excitement and terror, as the whole world had to be becoming aware there might be almost as much to this as met the eye. This is an absolutely unique document, kept by Marilyn in which the organizers of the event thank her as follows: "Dear Marilyn We cannot thank you enough for performing at the Birthday Salute to the President. Your performance contributed greatly to the excitement of the evening and helped to make it an historic event. /
"The President was thrilled, and we know this thrill was shared by the many thousands who were there. Best wishes to you always Sincerely"
