Each with arched rectangular padded back and seat covered in close-nailed gros-point floral needlework, the leaf-wrapped downswept arms with scroll terminals on conforming short supports, above a padded seat and pierced foliate front stretcher centred by a flowering urn flanked by eagles, on turned baluster legs and leaf-wrapped feet, regilt, losses to carving (4)

Lot Essay

Two closely related pairs of Louis XIV fauteuils, with similar acanthus-wrapped arm supports, foliate feet and pierced, richly carved stretchers, was sold Christie's New York, 30 March 1999, lots 17-18 ($21,850, each lot).
