Lot Essay

Anthony Blunt noted that the recto of the present drawing follows, in reverse, a woodcut by Gabrielis Faernus for an edition of Aesop's Fables published in Rome in 1563, A. Blunt, op. cit., 1966, p. 437. The drawing is dated by P. Rosenberg and L.-A. Prat to 1635.
