Lot Essay

The present drawing can be tentatively attributed to Du Quesnoy on the basis of a similarity of technique and subject to that of a cupid formerly in the collection of A.J.Dezallier d'Argenville, which bore an old attribution to the sculptor, sold in these Rooms, 2 July 1996, lot 201. A similar drawing from Gigoux's collection is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Besançon.
