Similar in pose to the sportsman in the recently rediscovered Rest by a Fountain, sold at Christie's Monaco, 4 December 1992, lot 49, which was part of a decorative cycle intended for the private apartments of King Louis XV at Fontainebleau commissoned by Philippe Orry in 1737.
