Lot Essay

Alastair Laing has kindly confirmed the attribution of this drawing. The drawing is a variant of a drawing formerly in the Goncourt collection, (A. Ananoff, François Boucher, Lausanne and Paris, 1976, no. 445, fig. 82), and was probably executed as an independant work of art to be sold to collectors.
The Goncourt drawing is connected to a picture of The Judgement of Paris, dated by Ananoff to 1759, op. cit., 1976, no. 524.
