etching, 1879, on tissue thin Japan with wirelines, the rare first state (of five), a very fine impression, with delicate, atmospheric wiping, particularly in the sky to evoke the clouds, signed in pencil with the butterfly, inscribed 'Trial rub. cheap! Aug 3. 1879', published by The Fine Art Society, London, with margins, three spots of oxidised printer's oil in the water at the right, with associated minor paper losses, two others in the upper and right margins, two printer's creases at the left, the upper corners of the platemark backed with Japan tape, other minor defects
