"The support in itself is something through which I can question how you position the painting as an object. There's a fine line between making sculptured painting and a painted sculpture. I want them to have the authority and presence of sculpture. You have to walk around in front of them. There's no fixed point, no centre of these paintings, no kind of single point perspective where you should be standing. So I want them to have the authority of sculpture, but to have the appearance of painting." (J. Martin, in: A. Woods, 'Jason Martin. Interview', in: 'Transcript', vol. 2, issue 3, pp. 44-45.)
