The gilt brass movement with turned ringed pillars, floral decoration to the pierced and engraved screwed cock, later silvered set-up disc with probably original blued steel spring, gut fusee movement with verge escapement without hairspring, the silvered dial on gilt dial plate with Roman numerals, engraved floral pattern to the centre, single brass hand, in finely cast, chased and engraved circular case with hinged top cover, movement signed

Lot Essay

Theodore Girard was the son of Marc, who established himself in business in 1623, he died at the age of 84 in 1680. This watch can be dated to approximately 1640-1645 as the cock is no longer pinned but screwed whilst retaining the same general outline of the earlier cocks.
