Geoffrey Konstam (op. cit.) recalled 'My early memories of Alfred Wolmark date from the First World War when he was a frequent visitor to my parent's home. Then in 1919 a fellow medical student and I posed as nudes for a large painting he was doing of any army medical examination. Wolmark had recently experienced such an examination and was turned down because of his severe myopia. The composition included a self-portrait as one of the examinees' [the artist is second from the left].
