We Set Off in Our New Car
signed with a fly (lower left), signed again, dated and inscribed 'We set off in our new car to meet Grandma and the Aunts who were going to buy new hats at Buckley and Proctor's at Mumps when we heard Aunt Frances call to Father to back the car quickly out of the way of a large herd of Bulls being driven through the town. A man helped push round the corner while Grandma and the Aunts (and our dogs Gyp and Barney) Miss Carter (who wore pink) and Mr Taylor (the Bank Manager) took refuge in the pawn shop. While we were backing Mother called 'Frederick we're in the tram lines and there's a tram coming'. We were very afraid and George cried The year was 1909 Helen Layfield Bradley 1970' (on a label attached to the reverse)
