A mounted collection of 80 buttons, mainly of brass, many relating to the military, mostly French 18th century, including those of a 'Lieutenant des Maréchaux de France' of 1771-1790, an 'Aide-de-Camp' of 1775-1794, an officer of the 'Gardes du Corps du Comte d'Artois' 177--1791, of another of the 'Caronniers à pied et à cheval' 1792, an 'Invalide' of 1767-1786, a few of members of numbered regiments and a group of buttons from 'Troupes Bourgeoises' of 1789-90, and later buttons including a sailor of circa 1800 and an officer of a 'Regiment du Roi' of 1814-1815; a set of six brass buttons--1.25in. Provenance
The sheet of 80 buttons was acquired by Mrs Helen Buck of New Jersey in Paris. Sixteen of these buttons were reproduced in 'National Button Bulletin' VII, Jan 1948, 024.
