The later rectangular plate below a C-scrolled broken cornice centred by a shell carved with acanthus, the sides with trailing flowers, the apron with a shell flanked by acanthus, regilt, the blackboard inscribed in ink 'Browning 1876'

Provenance
By descent with the Earls of Guilford, Waldershare Park, Dover, Kent or possibly Glemham Hall, Suffolk (which was sold in 1923).

Lot Essay

The relatively flat carving on a flowered trellis ground would suggest possibly Irish origins for this mirror.
An almost identical mirror was sold anonymously, Sotheby's New York, 11-12 April 1997, lot 838.
