Lot Essay

The marquetry on the top of this pair of tables is remarkable for its freedom of design. It is possible that it was executed by a cabinet-maker associated with the London firm of Mayhew and Ince, among whose pupils was William Moore of Dublin, also noted for his freedom of design (see Christie's London, 11 November 1999, lot 164).
