Lot Essay

The torch was lit on 28 July in Olympia, Greece, and arrived in Munich 29 days later after a journey of 5917km. For the first time since the Berlin Games in 1936 the flame was carried the entire way overland by a total of 6000 runners, cyclists, horsemen, motorcyclists and rowers.
