Lot Essay

The mark 'ST' was used by the lock manufacturer Bricard who had acquired the stock of the lock retailer Sterlin in the 1760's. This lock, being of an earlier style, was therefore probably retailed by Bricard. A similar Louis XV lock was sold in these Rooms from the Alexander Collection, 30 April 1999, lot 68.
