BINDINGS, Italian -- Officio della B.V. Maria. Rome: Giocchino and Gio. Giuseppe Salvioni, 1756. Two parts, 8° (207 x 136mm). Engraved frontispiece by Arnold v. Westerhout after J. Passarus, engraved title vignette, second title and engraved frontispiece by J. Frey after Passarus to Office of the Dead, 13 full-page engravings after J. Passarus, engraved head- , tailpieces and initials, printed in red and black. (Some browning and spotting.) Contemporary Roman light brown morocco by the Salvioni workshop, elaborately gilt with lattice cornerpieces, azured leaves, and pointillé flower heads, floral gilt endpapers, gilt edges. Provenance: Charles and Mary Lacaita of Selham, Sussex (bookplate).
Supplementum Officiorum que desunt in Breviariis antiquioribus juxta ritum sacri ordinis Praedicatorum. Rome: Girolamo Mainardi, 1751. 8° (195 x 130mm). Title device. (Light spotting.) Contemporary Roman calf gilt with arms of Pope Benedict XIV at centre (some wear at spine). Provenance: Pope Benedict XIV (Prosper Lambertini, 1740-58, binding); Mortimer Schiff (sale Sotheby's, 9 December 1938, lot 2205, £2.10 to Maggs); and 10 others in the lot, mostly 17th- and 18th-century Italian morocco gilt, five with Cardinal's arms.
