Half-sheet 8° (183 x 120mm). Engraved title vignette and 14 full-page engravings by Arnold van Westerhout, J.C. Allet, J. Frei, and G.G. Frezza after Giuseppe Passeri. (Some spotting, one blank corner renewed, without final ?blank.) CONTEMPORARY ROMAN BINDING BY THE SALVIONI WORKSHOP, gold-tooled marbled calf with strapwork painted in green and grey, gilt spine, marbled endpapers, edges gilt, gauffered and painted with a floral design (very slightly rubbed at spine, a little paint flaking).

A fine example of a Salvioni binding, executed by a workshop attached to the papal bindery. Cf. Dorothy Miner, History of Bookbinding, an Exhibition (Baltimore: 1957), nos. 523-24; and A.R.A. Hobson, French and Italian Collectors and their Bindings, p.160.
