4° (239 x 165mm). Title printed in red and black, printer's device on title, woodcut white-on-black and lombard initials. (Repaired tears in title, dampstain at lower corner, some soiling and marginal staining, without final ?blank.) Early 20th-century light brown morocco, triple blind fillets forming large lozenge on sides (spine lightly faded and stained). Provenance: extensively annotated by a contemporary German hand, attributed on the modern binding to Melanchthon, several marginal drawings; annotations in at least one other hand. The comedies of Terence were a popular text with which to improve one's Latin in the later middle ages and Renaissance, and the interlinear annotations here sugggest that it served this purpose for the attentive reader of the present copy. Some red printing. 8 large woodcuts, numerous small cuts, attributed to Guillaume le Roy, border pieces and ornamental and historiated initials. (Lacks quire O, without final blank, first and last leaves repaired at fore-margin, some browning and staining.) Early 20th-century brown morocco panelled in blind, gilt edges.
