YORKSHIRE, GUISBOROUGH PRIORY. Charter of the abbots of Fountains, Jervaulx and Easby, Ripon, 'the octave of St Martin the next after the death of Hubert Archbishop of Canterbury' [i.e. c. 11 November 1205], recording a composition between the prior and canons of Guisborough Priory and W. de Ridale, in Latin, 20 lines on vellum, approximately 155 x 125mm, indented, seal tags (mounted on adhesive strips on board, lacking seals, a few minor stains and some soiling). Provenance. Phillipps MS 40994.
The abbots of Fountains, Jervaulx and Easby confirm the settlement of a dispute over the patronage of Hetton church: W. de Ridale resigns his claims in return for the payment of half a mark. Guisborough Priory, outside Middlesbrough, was an Augustinian foundation of 1129; it was destroyed by fire in 1289.

Transcript of the royal confirmation charter of Henry II, late 1150s, transcript early 13th Century, confirming the lands and privileges of the priory, and granting it additional lands at Frating and hunting rights, witnesses including Thomas à Beckett as Chancellor, in Latin, 33 lines on vellum, 340 x 248mm (mounted with adhesive strips on board, modern descriptive card mounted on the document with adhesive strips, some creases, tear of approximately 60mm to upper margin, touching three words, repaired with modern tape). Document, 15 Edward I [1287], a power of attorney from Robert de Mopeshale of Woodham Ferrers, Essex, and Matilda his wife to the prior and monastery of Bicknacre, to pay annual rent of 8s. 4d. to Sir William Ferrers and his heirs, with three other documents of the Ferrers family of Woodham Ferrers, 1422, 1483 and 1541, vellum and paper, 60 x 252mm - 194 x 278mm, seal tags (light soiling).
