BANDELLO, Matteo (1480?-1562). Certaine Tragical Discourses written out of Frenche and Latin ... no lesse profitable then pleasaunte.... Translated by Sir Geoffrey Fenton (1539?-1608). London: Thomas Marshe, 1579.
4° in 8's (171 x 121mm). Woodcut architectural border within single line rule, with arms of the Stationers' Company at top and initials of Thomas Marshe at foot [McKerrow and Ferguson 125]. Woodcut historiated and criblé initials. (Title cropped and with small filled hole, also stained, some soiling of text margins, S5v with old ink stain along outer margin, T4 creased, end leaves rather stained, small repairs to final leaf.) Gilt-panelled crimson morocco by Rivière, gilt edges over marbling. Provenance: 19th-century bibliographical note on front blank; Henry Cunliffe (bookplate); bookseller's tipped-in catalogue description, with price of £52 and pencilled date '28/12/47'.
Second edition, the first appearing with Marshe's imprint in 1567 (see previous lot). STC 1356.3.
