LANQUET, Thomas (1521-1545), continued by Thomas COOPER (1517?-1595) and Robert CROWLEY (1518?-1588). An Epitome of Cronicles ... to the reigne of Quene Elizabeth. London: Thomas Marshe, 1559. 4° (184 x 127mmm). Black letter. Woodcut initials. With the extra leaf in quire 2R, and with two quires 4G at the end, the last of 6 rather than 4 leaves. (A few marginal tears, two leaves in the last quire suffering from slight loss of letters through adhesion, penultimate leaf also repaired at inner margin.) Brown morocco by Bayntun Rivière, red speckled edges. Thomas Lanquet died young, leaving his chronicle unfinished. The work was continued by Thomas Cooper, bishop of Winchester, up to the reign of Edward I, then brought to the reign of Elizabeth by Robert Crowley. This is a hurriedly-printed piracy of the first edition of 1549 (the make up of the two final quires differs between this copy and that in lot 352). STC 15217.5.
