LONDON BINDING OF CONTEMPORARY GILT-TOOLED RED TURKEY, covers with an all-over pattern of 'drawer-handles,' four-petal flowers, rosettes, two-leaf sprigs, dots and spangles, with a tulip at angles of the panel, spine in five compartments with raised bands, green morocco lettering-piece in one, the rest with gilt ornament, comb-marbled endpapers, gilt edges (spine a little rubbed). Provenance: William Charles de Meuron, Earl Fitzwilliam (armorial bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, the fine binding in a style characteristic of the late Restoration. The work itself is rare. Wing C-3956 locates 4 copies; together with 8 other volumes bound in morocco, nealy all richly-tooled, including two others with all-over 'drawer-tool' patterns. (9)
