WOLLSTONECRAFT, Mary (1759-1797). Original Stories from Real Life. London: J. Johnson, 1791.

12° (162 x 98mm). 6 engraved plates by and after William Blake, with an extra plate inserted before the frontispiece. (Lettering of three words in three lines of A2r partly effaced, slight stain at foot of C10, occasional light marginal soiling.) Later panelled calf, sides ruled in gilt, gilt spine compartments with red morocco lettering-piece and date at foot, yellow edges (joints and spine lightly rubbed).

Second edition. The first edition of 1788 was published anonymously and without the Blake illustrations. The extra plate in this copy was published by William Godwin in 1810. Showing a youth shunning a flying bird, it was evidently bound in because of a possible attribution to Blake. Bentley Blake Books 514A; Rothschild 2597; Windle Mary Wollstonecraft 3.
Special notice
