A Cosway-style binding in contemporary purple morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), upper cover with inset hand-coloured oval portrait miniature of Francis signed 'Amiel', the miniature surrounded by an elaborate border of small tools and fleur-de-lys, gilt-tooled outer border, the lower cover with similar gilt decorated outer border, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with repeat decoration centred around a fleur-de-lys tool, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges.
