A Cosway-style binding in later red morocco gilt by Bayntun (Riviere), upper cover to volume I with inset hand-coloured oval portrait miniature signed 'René', the miniature surrounded by a gilt-tooled border of three fillets, the outer border to this cover and the borders to all the other covers formed from gilt fillets with strapwork cornerpieces, spines in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and fourth, the others with repeat pattern in gilt, gilt turn-ins, marbled-paper endleaves, gilt edges.
