8 volumes in 12 (only, of 13 in 20), 8° (218 x 133mm). Half-titles. 131 maps, the majority colour-printed, 103 folding. Contemporary crushed blue morocco gilt by the W.H. Smith Bindery, the covers gilt with the crest of Viscount Hambledon, and stamped at the ends of the bands with 2 3-leaf gilt tools interspersed with gilt dots, the spines divided into 6 compartments by raised bands, titled in gilt in 2 compartments and dated at the foot, the turn-ins gilt with 3 fillets joined at the corners by dot tools, gilt edges (extremities lightly rubbed, some spines faded, volumes V-VIII in a slightly lighter morocco). Provenance: William Henry Smith, third Viscount Hambledon (1903-1948, engraved armorial bookplates on upper pastedowns).

Together with William Allingham's The Music Master (London: 1855), bound in crushed green morocco by W.H. Smith, the covers with interlacing gilt borders joined by cornerpieces of inlaid red morocco leaves, the upper cover with a central design composed of red morocco inlaid leaves and cream morocco inlaid discs, the spine gilt in compartments and decorated with inlaid red morocco leaves, gilt-ruled turn ins, the corners decorated with inlaid red morocco discs, gilt edges.
