2° (362 x 214mm). Facsimile reprint of the title and numerous illustrations, text reset. Contemporary white alum-tawed pigskin over bevelled wooden boards, covers tooled in gilt with triple fillet border, the large inner panels tooled with an overall design of a lattice of leafy sprays and rose flowerheads, enclosing sprays of acorns and oak leaves or flowers and leaves, the sprays tooled onto variously-coloured morocco onlays, the spine in five compartments with raised bands, lettered in the first the others decorated with similar motifs as the covers, gilt turn-ins, vellum endleaves and pastedowns, gilt edges, alum-tawed pigskin-backed green cloth Solander box, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe.

A FINELY-BOUND REPRINT OF THE FIRST EDITION OF PARKINSON'S FAMOUS WORK A similar example was sold in the Chevalier sale, Christie's New York, 9 November 1990, lot 98.
