4° (268 x 205mm). Half-title. Etched frontispiece by J.C. Bromley after Sir George Beaumont. Extra-illustrated with a laid down, clipped portion of an autograph letter signed by Wordsworth 'With Mary's kindest love, your affectionate ever loving Brother Wm Wordsworth', an engraved print of Bolton Abbey by E. Finden after J.M.W. Turner, 31 19th-century albumen photographic prints by Payne Jennings, Francis Frith and others, and a woodcut print of the White Doe after Felix M. Miller. (Scattered light spotting, light offsetting from frontispiece onto title.) Late 19th-century crushed green morocco gilt by Cedric Chivers, the upper cover lettered in gilt, both covers with a border of gilt floral tools with gilt floral spray cornerpieces within a gilt pointillé line and 2 gilt fillets, the spine gilt in 6 compartments, lettered in 2 and dated at the foot, the other compartments decorated with flower and vase tools, roll-tooled gilt turn ins, gilt edges (spine slightly faded, lightly rubbed and scuffed). Provenance: William Wordsworth (presentation inscription on half-title); William Luke Nichols (1802-1899, antiquary, cf. DNB XIV, pp.455-456, bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. A FINELY-BOUND, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED IN A ?CLERICAL HAND 'FROM THE AUTHOR' AND SIGNED BY WORDSWORTH, 'WM. WORDSWORTH', containing a clipped signature in Wordsworth's hand, and 31 photographs of Bolton Abbey, the surrounding countryside, Wordsworth's home, Rydal Mount, and other related subjects.
