8 volumes, 8° (240 x 152mm). 770 hand-coloured engraved plates. (Without subscribers' list, the 35th plate in vol.I, numbered 83, misbound in vol.VI, occasional light spottting.) Contemporary olive morocco gilt, spines in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with simple double-fillet borders, gilt edges (light fading to spines).

A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, with the plates organized systematically by order and family, rather than numerically as issued. Each plate includes a representation of a British native plant, and in many cases the various juvenile stages of the insect. Nissen ZBI 1000. (8)
