3 parts in one volume, 4° (305 x 230mm). Engraved portrait after Bartolozzi, 43 hand-coloured plates on thicker paper, one double-page, 2 folding letterpress tables. (Some light spotting to portrait, first title and some margins.) Contemporary red morocco, gilt ruled borders, spine gilt in six compartments, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (lightly rubbed, lower cover slightly faded), with a contemporary fore-edge painting of a country house set in wooded parkland. Provenance: Bertram Mitford Freeman (armorial bookplate, pasted over earlier bookplate).
A fine copy of the second edition of Dr Alexander Hunter's edition of the sylva, this copy with the Terra included, and with all the plates hand-coloured on thick paper. Keynes 48 (noting two copies hand-coloured). The house shown in the fore-edge painting probably relates to the early ownership whose bookplate is obscured; together with 2 other related works including Agricola A Philosophical Treatise of Husbandry and Gardening (London, 1721).
