Donaldson and others after Shaw and others, 1 folding, 10 hand-coloured, 3 letterpress tables (3 folding), 32 illustrations (31 engraved, 1 woodcut), EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 13 original watercolour drawings of views of Staffordshire by T. Donaldson, 4 copied from originals by Thomas Girtin. (Vol.I without half-title, plate facing p.117 in vol.II with 4 inch repaired tear affecting the image, text leaf 2E4 in vol.II torn in half horizontally and repaired, 7 plates in vol.II with dampstain to margins.) 20th-century red half morocco gilt, spines in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with simple repeat decoration in gilt, top edges gilt, the others uncut.
FIRST EDITION, LARGE COPY, with coloured plates and watercolours by one of the artists who worked on the engravings for this fine work. The work remained unfinished at the time of Shaw's early death in London. Upcott III,p.1176. (2)
